BUDDHISM recognises two kinds of Truth, the apparent conventional truth concerning mundane matters and the real or ultimate Truth concerning the supramundane. The ultimate Truth can be realized only by developing the mind through meditation, and not by theorising or speculation.

he Vesak Day is an extremely important occasion observed in Singapore. Huge crowds will usually assemble at various Buddhist temples around the city. Inside the Buddha temples the monks chant sacred hymns and a large number of devotees set caged-birds free.
Vesak celebrations are all about extravagance and excess. There is no modesty or moderation about it; nor is there any pretense to such arrests.With the exuberant polythene décor, the larger than life cutouts, streets teeming with the ‘power of giving’ - Dansal, where drinks in plastic cups are forcefully thrust at you – and the vigor of the pavements thronged with impatient people, you feel that this cannot be a commemoration of the Buddha, the ‘moderate one’; but, of some glutton.

Serving the mankind is the ultimate duty of the man and Buddhism originated from this principle since Buddhism is the teachings of a noble man who discovered the path to spiritual freedom and then dedicated his whole life to teach the world about that path.
